“We had such great fun – thank you for an amazing event” - Lindsay Goldbeck

With bright sunshine and Loch Morlich as smooth as a mill pond conditions could not have been better for CAT 2013. It was fantastic to see familiar faces and first timers all having fun and taking it with varying degrees of seriousness. Once again we have had several very appreciative comments- good to know we get the formula right. Many thanks for your good humoured patience at registration – we will endeavour to get that right for CAT 2014.

Records were smashed this year too – perhaps some of those 29ers having an impact here. Mike Skinner was overall winner in 1.41.24, taking almost 3 minutes off local biathlete Scott Dixon’s time in 2011. Siobhan Evans from Forres shaved a very impressive 9 minutes from her previous best, completing in 1.50.34. However the CAT is mainly about team work and Newport on Tay’s “Midlife Crisis”, Russell Duncan and Colin Donald were first male team, while “Huffing and Puffing” duo from Tain Cherie Pumphrey and Lyn Humphries took the female title. In the mixed category “Fi-rocious Brocodile” Alastair Brockie and Fiona Drake took the honours, while the “Deadly Dugans” were first locals and second team overall. It was also an encouraging result for CAT grant recipient Scott Grosdanoff and partner Andy McKinnon as the second local team home.

The fantastic weather encouraged many of you to stay for the prizes and CAT grant recipients Scott Grosdanoff and John Aisthorpe explained how the CAT grant had helped them further their sporting ambitions over the past year.

A big thank you to all participants, Keith and team at Loch Morlich Watersports, Justine and Iain at Avium, Henry, Aberdeenshire Race Timing, local landowners, numerous local businesses and a particular thanks to all the enthusiastic marshalls.  You all helped make CAT 2013 one of the best yet. Date for CAT 2014 – Saturday 13th September.
