Supporting Talented Young Athletes

The proceeds from another successful CAT in 2013 were awarded to two talented young local lasses, who were delighted to receive £700 each. The successful applicants were Elena Melton from Grantown, a downhill mountain bike racer, and Megan Riach from Tulloch, another very promising cyclist. Both girls have found the extra cash invaluable for gear and training for their sporting endeavours.

My CAT grant was used to buy resistance rollers in November, and I have been using them over the winter. They have enabled me to continue to train over winter, and because of the resistance element, they have also enabled me to do specific power training, which is important to build up muscles. Also the rollers help work on balance, especially when I ride out of the saddle or with no hands.

In March I used the CAT money to help cover the cost of attending the Gravity camp in Peebles. This included technical downhill training with Ben Cathro from SickSkills.
This photo is of my first race of the 2014 season - the first round of the Scottish Enduro series at Fortwilliam. It was pretty muddy! I was very pleased to have won the Junior Girls’ category.

Well recently with my cycling I've been gradually getting into training after my exams and have focused myself on time trialling so recently I have just bought a Kuota Kalibur carbon time trial bike, which I haven't raced yet but am looking forward to.

I haven't been riding track for a while as the velodrome in Glasgow is closed for the Commonwealth Games, but I still am aiming for racing in the individual pursuit in the senior British Track Championships this year or the following hopefully. So I'm doing a mixture of road and track cycling still but main focus on time trial which I'm very excited about.

Unfortunately I don't have much racing news to report but am planning on getting that underway in July and am going to be time trialling all over Scotland but also to get a few trips down south for some national circuit racing when I can.

Also I have to say the funding has been a great help and has helped my cycling a lot.
